One of my digital marketing & social media management clients is one of the best collision repair shops in Shawnee, Downtown Auto Body . Every year they throw a really cool event in downtown Shawnee Oklahoma called City Of 5 Nations Car Show. The body shop takes over the entire west side of main street in Shawnee and it’s just overflowing with hot rods, custom trucks, classic cars all up down the area. There are food vendors, live music from local Oklahoma bands, face painting, give aways, and more. All in all it’s always a good time but this is the first year I had been involved versus just bringing my family out to enjoy the event. This year I was there with the family but also taking photos, videos, creating social media content, talking with people about their cars that they had worked so hard to restore or build. My favorite part of my job no matter what part of it I’m doing or where I’m at is the stories. Hearing people talk about what they are passionate about. I love it.
Of all the awards that were handed out and after all the cash prizes had been claimed, the big award that everyone is interested in every year is the Best In Show. Not only is it the grand cash prize of $1,000 but it’s bragging rights because its going up against everything out there no matter if it’s a classic square body Chevy C10 or a 69 Camaro or a Rat Rod. There are a lot of bragging rights that go along with a ‘best in show’ award. This years winner was an amazing Chevy Nova that I was asked by the owner to photograph before they left town to head back out of state. People come from all over the country to participate in this car show because it’s one of the shows that isn’t run by an organization but rather a shop that just loves amazing customs. I spoke with the owner, Rick, and set up a time right at sunset. Thankfully Daniel, over at Shawnee CTV who partners with Downtown Auto Body to put on this event every year along with a massive list of sponsors, gave us special permission to use the old hollowed out shell of a downtown Shawnee business on main street. After a little sweet talking Rick agreed to meet at sunset and pull his prize winning Chevy Nova very very carefully up into this old building positioning it just right for some amazing photos to commemorate his day here in central Oklahoma.

If you don’t know what SEMA is do yourself a favor & take a peek, even if you don’t know what it is if you’ve seen an action movie, music video, or passed the car / truck magazines in your local drug store then you’ve seen a SEMA build. It is not a car show or a traditional trade show, it’s more like the super bowl of custom cars. I can’t wait to see how theirs turns out.
